Mum’s Sticky Chocolate Cake


This is the amounts for 1 layer only. Double to make both layers at once.

1 1/2 cups Self raising flour
4 tablesp cocoa
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablesp golden syrup
1 1/4 cups hot water
1 teasp bi-carbonate soda
90g butter, melted
drop vanilla essence

Sieve flour, cocoa and sugar together. Make a well in the centre.
Dissolve syrup in hot water and add bi-carb.
Add margarine to syrup mixture. Add this to the dry ingredients as well vanilla and gently fold all ingredients together.
Pour mixture into greased cake tin.
Bake for about 20 minutes in a moderately slow oven.
Cool in pan.

Repeat for second layer.

Top and fill with chocolate butter icing.
