Caramel Dumplings

Dumplings:

1 1/4 cup self-rising flour
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup milk

Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 cups boiling water
In a bowl use your hands to crumble the butter into the flour, until you have a crumbly mixture. Mix in sugar, milk and vanilla. Make sure it is combined completely. 
To make the sauce combine all ingredients for sauce in a saucepan. Bring to a boil,  stirring constantly. Reduce heat and drop tablespoonfuls of dumpling mixture into the sauce. Make about six large dumplings. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Serve hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
